Hughes Home Day Care is a family child care program in Cheektowaga, NY that joined QUALITYstarsNY’s Start with Stars initiative in October, 2022 after being awarded an OCFS Child Care Deserts RFA 1 Grant for new programs.*
It is always rewarding to hear from our QUALITYstarsNY participants how their commitment to improving and sustaining quality is benefiting the children in their care. Daina Hughes, Hughes Home Day Care owner/director shared her excitement about a new addition to her program made possible through the work she’s done in collaboration with her QUALITYstarsNY Quality Improvement Specialist, Sara Lamoreaux, to create a family child care environment that is conducive to learning and caring for children’s routine needs under the QUALITYstarsNY Home Environment Standards.

The children love building with them and making castles, farms, spaceships, boats, houses and giant dice with them. We use them almost daily and they are the perfect addition to our program! They are super kid-friendly and easy to clean. We have used them inside and outside; they are always a huge hit.”

OCFS Child Care Deserts Grant – RFA 1 Recipient
*The RFA 1 grant is designed to support new programs with opening their child care business in an area of the state identified as a child care desert. OCFS Child Care Deserts Grant recipients have the added benefit of participating in QUALITYstarsNY and/or its Start with Stars initiative so they are supported with guidance and resources to create and sustain high quality.
