Every year, the Family Child Care Association of New York State (FCCANYS) invites Family Child Care (FCC) providers to gather in Oswego, NY, for two days of discussion, learning, and honoring their essential modality of child care. QUALITYstarsNY is honored to support FCCANYS and our FCC participants by hosting workshops and connecting with child care professionals from all corners of our state.

Our Quality Improvement Specialists, Sarah Gould-Houde, Abby Jenney, and Christina Miles attended the event to meet with QUALITYstarsNY participants and other FCC providers.

Abby, Christina, and Sarah hosted a session titled STEAM, Play and Learning. This session was designed to help participants plan for STEAM activities with the children in their care by sharing five strategies to create and implement STEAM activites and play. Abby and Christina also hosted a QUALITYstarsNY Information Session to provide interested program leaders with the information and expectations nessecary to apply for an join QUALITYstarsNY.
In addition to these sessions, Sarah and Abby had the opportunity to present with QUALITYstarsNY participants Rene and Paul Leonard of Exploration Acres, located in Granville, NY. Exploration Acres boasts an incredible outdoor play area, and the team was able to share strategies to engage children in outdoor play and how to prepare children to play outside all year round.
Lastly, one of the special moments from this year’s FCCANYS conference was the presentation of the Friend of Family Childcare award to Sue Kowaleski. A longtime champion of FCC, Sue has dedicated her career to improving the support and quality of home-based care across New York State. Congratuations to Sue on this incredible achievement!
