In February, QUALITYstarsNY participant Ivy Tilson and her program, The Little Bumblebee, hosted New York Governor Kathy Hochul, New Rochelle Mayor Yadira Ramos-Herbert, and Office of Children and Family Services Commissioner DaMia Harris-Madden for a conversation about universal child care. Ivy, her staff, and many young children enjoyed the visit with Gov. Hochul, Mayor Ramos-Herbert, and Commissioner Harris-Madden, who spoke about the importance of high-quality, accessible, and affordable child care for New York’s families.

We’re trying to make sure that kids across the state have access to child care … We’re very proud to be able to support families like yours to help you to be able to have a job and to work here, but to also know that your kids are well taken care of.

Gov. Kathy Hochul, speaking with a parent/staff member of The Little Bumblebee in New Rochelle.

The Little Bumblebee’s Quality Improvement Specialist, Miriam Kerness, was also present. Miriam and Ivy discussed the way QUALITYstarsNY works in tandem with statewide partners, such as the Office for Children and Family Services, and local groups, in this case, the Westchester Jewish Community Services’ WJCS ParentChild+ program, to provide a comprehensive child care experience for families in the Hudson Valley and beyond.

By working with QUALITYstarsNY and other state and local systems, we are working with people that give us feedback. Participating in QUALITYstarsNY helps us look at everything we do as a program. The more solidified our systems are, the better our operations, the better this works for everyone. We love it!
