On January 15, Governor Kathy Hochul visited the Commission for Economic Opportunity’s (CEO) Community Resource Center, a Head Start program and QUALITYstarsNY participant located in Troy, New York. During her visit, Governor Hochul spent time with educators and children in the center’s classrooms and hosted a press conference regarding expanded state policies related to early childhood education.

The visit came the day after the Governor gave her State of the State address, which focused heavily on strengthening New York’s children and families. While at CEO Community Resource Center, Governor Hochul highlighted new policies and investments to put the state on the path to universal child care. She discussed measures the state will be taking in the next fiscal year to make child care more affordable for families, including increasing the child tax credit and an inflation rebate for families.

CEO Community Resource Center has been participating in QUALITYstarsNY since 2014 and is currently a 4-Star Rated program.

“I’m really proud of the work that you’re doing here, and all the true heroes, as I mentioned, who come here and nurture these children and just to teach them the skills…and preparing them so they’re more successful when they do get to kindergarten and there’s nothing holding them back.”
