On March 2, QUALITYstarsNY participants on Staten Island took part in Read Across America Day, the national day promoting children’s reading celebrated annually on the birthday of Dr. Seuss. Quality Improvement Specialist Simone Taylor hosted a virtual event, where teachers logged from their classrooms to watch Simone read to their children.
“As an early childhood teacher, I always found fun and creative ways to celebrate Read Across America with my students. This year, I choose Ten Apples Up On Top as it is one of my favorite Dr. Seuss books and it incorporates many math concepts that children need for school readiness. Additionally, I sent samples of developmentally appropriate activities such as graphing and cooking to encourage the teachers to extend their learning into the classroom after I read the book. As we continue to support programs through the pandemic, I try to find non-traditional ways to support programs and uplift early childhood professionals as much as possible through these uncertain times.” – Simone Taylor, Staten Island Quality Improvement Specialist
We hope you’ll take the time today to celebrate the joy of reading by picking up a book and reading together with your little one!
