Tonya Rivera

Southern Tier

Tonya grew up in the Binghamton area and has been in the early education field for nearly 25 years. She received her undergraduate degree from SUNY Cortland in Early Childhood Education and her Master’s degree from The University of Scranton in Instruction and Curriculum. She has been a teacher in the early childhood classroom from infants all the way through preschool. Tonya became an Infant and Toddler Specialist as well as a credentialed trainer for New York State, then moved back into a child care center. While supervising 30 teachers, Tonya worked hard to maintain NAEYC accreditation and move the center to a 5-star rated program for QUALITYstarsNY! Throughout her early education career, Tonya has been certified in the Program for Infant and Toddler Care, and earned and maintained her Trainer’s credential as well as her CLASS Certification as a certified observer.

Tonya is also happily married to her husband Michael for 15 years and together they have three amazing girls, two silly doggies, a crazy-loud cockatiel. She is very excited to be part of the QUALITYstarsNY team and help programs in the Southern Tier offer the highest-quality care possible.
