Susan Schonhorn

Program Quality Coach

Susan Schonhorn received her Master’s Degree in Education from Bank Street College of Education in 2000. She has been teaching and working in early childhood and elementary school education since then. Susan comes to QUALITYstarsNY from her recent work as a Developmental Screening and Assessment Specialist with CUNY’s Professional Development Institute. Over the last two years Susan has also served as Instructional Director at a community-based preschool in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn. From 2015-2020 Susan returned to Bank Street College of Education to work as a Pre-K Explore Coach with program leaders and teachers across NYC’s diverse communities, in partnership with the New York City Department of Early Childhood Education. Prior to these roles, Susan was Assistant Director of Montessori Day School of Brooklyn. Some of Susan’s other roles have included Early Childhood Programs Manager at Studio in a School, Literacy Coach in New York City’s public schools with Mondo Publishing, Museum Educator at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum as well as Lead Teacher, Program Coordinator and Family Educator at P.S. 131’s Even Start Family Partnership Program. Susan has also traveled throughout the world and taught children and adults in Woodstock, NY, San Francisco, Guatemala and the Czech Republic.
