As of October 2024, due to changes to the Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS), Head Start programs in New York are no longer required to participate in QUALITYstarsNY. However, the same benefits Head Start programs in QUALITYstarsNY have received in the past exist today.
QUALITYstarsNY supports over 400 Head Start programs across the state. QUALITYstarsNY has an abbreviated set of Quality Standards for both center-based and family child care Head Start programs, which take into account HSPPS requirements. Head Start/Early Head Start programs automatically earn points for QUALITYstarsNY Standards that they already meet through their HSPPS compliance. Head Start programs have an average Star Rating of 4 Stars, demonstrating the complementary nature of HSPPS and our Quality Standards.
Head Start programs also enjoy the same benefits as other programs in QUALITYstarsNY, including:
- Data-driven assessment to inform the creation of a Quality Improvement Plan, developed by the program in partnership with their Quality Improvement (QI) Specialist
- Individualized guidance and ongoing support from a QI Specialist—a seasoned professional in early childhood education and program management
- Professional development opportunities and scholarships for staff to pursue higher education degrees, credentials, certificates, and high-quality trainings
- Guidance, information, and resources to enhance your learning environment
- And more, at no cost to your program.
